2016 Show

Show Secretary Report 2016

This is our 39th Flower and Produce Show.   What strikes you when you enter the village hall is the mass of bright, vibrant colours of the entries.   A wonderfully cheerful sight overwhelms you as you walk in.   A great achievement by everyone who has entered.   Thank you for contributing towards another successful show.   Of the 126 classes this year we had 550 entries, this was 75 less than last year.   The weather has   a lot to do with how well our produce grows and this years’ lower trend reflects across the county as a whole. Michaelmas daisies did not time themselves very well as there were no entries in this category.   Fruit appears to have been a bit ‘hit and miss’ as well.   The one category that is on an upward trend is photography.   There were 86 entries, this being 10 up on last year.   The imagination and expertise with the images never ceases to impress.   Whilst we had more children's entries in the younger age category, there were none in the 10 - 14 age group. Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome!   Children are our future and we need to nurture and encourage them to participate.   We had a Mammoth Record breaker with Gavin Leeks truss of tomatoes weighing 2.82kg, (6lb 31/2oz).   Last broken by David Cole in 2006 at 2.12kg (4.10oz).   The interpretation and imagination of the floral entries and the gifted hands of the artists and handicraft entries are awe inspiring.

Sponsorship continues to support us financially and lists of our sponsors are always displayed in the Show schedules and during the Show.   The Show costs a lot of money to run every year and your assistance in buying draw tickets is not only essential, but is our main contribution towards supporting the show.   Continued support like this will ensure Capel St Mary has an annual show for the future years to come.

I would also like to thank all the committee members, their partners and volunteers who without their help we would not be able to hold such a successful show.   It is due to the continued efforts of the committee and show team and by the many volunteer helpers enlisted over the weekend, that the show continues to be one of the most successful village events.
