Growing in Capel St. Mary
The Allotment Society is one of the original "Big Society" organisations. Capel St Mary Allotments Association has over 350 members, of which over 90 currently rent a plot.
The association manages and carries out improvements to the allotment site on behalf of the Parish Council.
We run an Annual Village Show which typically has over 126 individual classes, and we operate a trading hut selling garden sundries to members at discounted prices. We also participate in the National Allotment Society Seed Scheme, whereby members can purchase seeds at discounted rates. Our annual BBQ provides the opportunity for members and their guests to socialise together.
We publish a monthly "Gardening Guide and Allotment News" that is syndicated to the "Capel Capers" magazine that is delivered free each month to all households in Capel St Mary.
The Community Wildlife Area in a corner of the Allotment Site was a joint project with the local primary school.
