Growing in Capel St. Mary
Tribute to Graham Whybrow who died tragically on Sunday 23rd May 2021
We are all deeply shocked and saddened on the passing of Graham and send our deepest sympathy to his wife Sue and daughter Becky and family.
Graham joined the Capel St Mary Allotments Association committee in March 1981 and became Treasurer the following year until he became Stores Manager in 1986. He soon began expanding the range of products for members of the Association to buy at the weekends. He also grew a range of vegetables and flowers to sell at The Hut and compiled the monthly article on gardening tips for Capel Capers.
We cannot even start to list all the things that Graham did as a committee member of the Association. We especially remember the annual BBQ with an amazing menu and his contribution to the running of the annual Flower and Produce Show.
Graham could usually be found on the allotment site. He kept his plot in tip top order and won the Best Kept Allotment Competition many times as well as numerous prizes for his flowers and produce at the annual show. He made sure that the machinery was maintained and in good running order and spent many hours on site maintenance.
Everyone knew Graham. He was always so willing to help and give advice when asked about anything horticultural. Many members of the Association can remember acts of kindness from him which were given with no fuss.
He was also active in many other organisations in the village, being the prime mover in many events such as the firework displays and social events.
Graham will be greatly missed by all.
