THE VEG PLOT

If soil is too wet to dig or rotovate, spend an hour clearing bean poles, weeds and old brassicas so you’re ready when conditions improve.

Soil Preparation

  • Complete digging and incorporate farmyard manure or compost

  • Rake in Growmore, Blood Fish & Bone, Rooster Pellets or organic Farmyard Manure before sowing

Plant Now

  • Early seed potatoes

  • Onion sets

  • Asparagus

  • Jerusalem artichokes

Use fleece for frost protection or to warm the soil.

Sow Now

Carrots, beetroot, Brussels sprouts, calabrese, parsnips, cauliflower, leeks, salad onions, radish, peas, spinach

Herbs: fennel, dill, parsley, marjoram, rosemary, sage, thyme

Harvest

Broccoli, parsnips, radish, spinach

Care

  • Feed established plants with potash

  • Mulch with peat, compost or manure

  • Winter wash fruit trees and bushes

  • Spray affected trees (mildew, apple scab, aphids, codling moth)

  • Apply general fertiliser

Start picking rhubarb.
