WHAT’S AVAILABLE AT THE HUT

GARDENING TIPS FOR JUNE

General Maintenance

- Hoe weekly or use Weedol/Bio Glyphosate for weed control.
- Use slug pellets selectively.
- Apply Growmore or Chicken Pellets (4oz per sq yd) before sowing/planting.
- Top-dress containers with grit.
- Feed weekly with Maxicrop or Phostrogen.
- Water wisely: Use open-ended cans; avoid over-spraying. Seed potatoes don’t need water until July.

Environmentally Friendly Tip: Use non-chemical pest and weed control whenever possible to protect wildlife and pets.

THE VEG PLOT

- Plant: Cauliflower, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, sweet corn, leeks, celery, marrows, courgettes, tomatoes.
- Sow: Runner beans (on 8' canes crossed at 3'), salad crops, carrots, swede, French beans.
- Harvest: Asparagus, new potatoes, carrots, peas, broad beans, Japanese onions.
- Tasks: Earth up potatoes, thin out May-sown crops, tie in supports.

FRUIT CARE

- Protect fruit trees from codling/plum moths.
- Spray for greenfly, raspberry beetles, and red spider mites (use Py powder after flowering).
- Net soft fruits to deter birds.

GREENHOUSE

- Ventilate, shade, and maintain humidity.
- Water daily.
- Take softwood/semi-ripe cuttings using rooting powder.
- Sow hardy perennials.
- Plant: Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, aubergines in 10–14L pots.
- Feed with tomato feed once fruit swells.
- Melon care: Pinch out excess shoots, hand-pollinate female flowers, keep main stem dry.

FLOWERS & BORDERS

- Plant out half-hardy annuals and summer containers.
- Stake tall plants (4' canes + safety caps).
- Tie in sweet peas to 6' canes.
- Mulch borders and prune flowered heathers.

LAWNS

- Mow weekly.
- Apply lawn feed (liquid or granular).
- Use Weed, Feed & Moss Killer or Spring/Summer Feed from The Hut.

POND & WILDLIFE AREA

- Beautiful blooms: Purple Allium, Pink Campion, flowering shrubs.
- Wildlife: Newts, dragonfly larvae, diving beetles, pond skaters, water snails.
➡️ Children must be supervised.

SHED RULES

- Max size: 6’ x 4’ x 8’ (gable end east-west).
- Position: Corner of full plot, near central footpath.
- Door must open onto your plot.
- Must be brown and securely anchored.
- Contact the Site Manager before construction or changes.
